Breaking old
patterns, designing new ones...
Manifesting a new
potential and directing your life is an inside job. You can start
within yourself.
Make a list of habits that cause obstacles that keep you from
achieving your full potential.
Make a list of your gifts, skills, aptitudes that you have.
These are the ways that you can express yourself in a creative way.
These will be your tool box, if you wish, that will compliment your
strengths.
If the situation were different what would be the outcome? Can you
be specific with what you want?
What is it that you want to create right now in order to feel
comfortable with your choice?
What is the little step that you need to make in order to create
some breathing space for your self?
The new picture will become alive by engaging all of your senses.
Answer these questions for yourself and a new picture will become
alive that can create for yourself, a new productive pattern. You
can only alter a pattern that doesn't serve you by applying the
same mechanism that built the previous pattern in the first
place.
A pattern is established by forming a set of beliefs,
repetition,
and
engagement of our
senses, which crystallize into a habit or
pattern.
For example, If you believe
that hiking is good
for your health you participate in hiking by looking
at the beautiful
landscape,
hearing the soothing noise of the running
waters or the sound of the birds, feeling
happy and energized by
taking a walk in the forest, have a taste of the forest herbs,
smell
the freshness and the
sweetness of the flowers, and finally engage in an
internal
dialogue where you can reflect on your life
and notice that your mind after the walk is more clearer and
calmer. The positive experience through your senses organizes
a memory
imprint in
your mind; as a result, you want to repeat
the hike in the forest
because you remember how much better you feel after taking a hike
in the forest. By repeating the hiking activity you start to
establish a habit/pattern. For an example, you may create the habit
to hike three times a week because it makes you feel better and
improves your mental and physical overall condition.
In the same way, you can bring the new potential in your
consciousness and fuse it with pictures, sounds, feelings, tastes,
smells, and internal dialogues. You may hold on to a previous
pattern just because it is familiar or because it serves a
comfortable zone. But, dig deep within yourself to create a
new
pattern! Find a new
path, add a new friend or stop a while longer at peaceful scenic
site you know of and listen to the sound that motivates your lives
goals then write them down. You might be surprised to see that life
offers you more than one path. Remember to mix it up until it
becomes an automatic response and registers in your mind as a
comfortable experience.
Naturally, we are drawn to that which makes us feel at ease. That
way, it makes it very desirable to keep the new pattern and get rid
of that which hinders the flow of comfort.
When we complain about something there is a degree of discomfort.
Deep in side we know that we are not in harmony with what we
encounter in our external reality. The body starts to ache; the
mind is agitated, or depressed. We feel trapped and contrived. On
the other hand, when we love what we are doing, we feel happy,
content, we have a lot of energy, and we sleep better. You can test
your new potential goal by acting it out. Call a friend that you
feel comfortable with and express to him/her your new goal. Observe
the tone of your voice and your bodily postures; sense your energy
by paying attention to the degree of the enthusiasm you express
when describing your new goal.
You may notice that in your description you have interjected few
"Buts". "I am looking forward going away every other weekend
but
I am not sure who is
going to take care of my cat". The interjected "But" holds the
energy of the old pattern. The new vision doesn't flow. The
question is: Do you want to achieve your goal with some kind of
complication or would you rather have a clear picture in your mind
that is flawless? The" But" is limiting; where as, the clear vision
of taking some time off in order to feel rejuvenated is allowing
the energy to come through that will ultimately uplift your spirit,
heal your pain and bring peace of mind.
What will this
new vision/possibility/goal allow you to do or bring as an outcome
in your life?
What are the practical steps to make which will support your
goal?
We are all holistic beings. We are co-creating our lives on
a physical,
social, mental, financial, and spiritual
level. All these
levels are interconnected and therefore affect each other. For
example, if you are tired and need to recuperate, it would be
foolish to spend allot of money on a trip to New York with your
friend and his/her three children in a busy environment when you
need to relax and be in a place of silence. As you can clearly see,
this activity would not support your goals instead, you would be
inattentive and maybe considered complacent to your needs.
Just remember, enjoy your new vision by having clarity, be
attentive to your physical needs, feel content and relaxed, be
enthusiastic and welcome the moment with a warm sunny smile!
